John Sparks here......writing to you about a long overlooked way to de-stress and empower your the life. I am super excited to finally be offering my pilot course entitled
"One Breath for Balance."
Each of us carries a natural joy inside of us that not only brings the human-ness to humanity, but also brings the power of expanding joy and helping the world become a better place.
Stress really does killModern living is a beautiful thing. But unless you learn to balance the stress, it comes with a cost: your health. In fact the American Institute of Stress reports that 75-90% of all visits to the primary care physician are stress related. Stress is linked to poor work performance, poor judgment, anxiety, panic disorders, high blood pressure, PTSD, and more. Studies show that unmanaged stress is as bad for your heart and lungs as eating high cholesterol foods and smoking cigarettes. It costs the American workforce an estimated $300 billion per year, and Time magazine has called unmanaged stress "America's number one health problem."
It's a catch 22Most stress-relieving activities are minimally effective. In fact, some of them just add more stress to the mix. While it is definitely beneficial to exercise, eat right, receive massage, have social support, and even be treated medically, there is obviously something missing. Stress levels in this country keep rising and pharmaceutical companies keep getting richer. It's harder and harder to find time for things like exercise, massage, and even socializing. The human body, with all of its quirks and challenges, has within it the intelligence from which worlds are created. It's time to access that intelligence. And we can- through focused breathing. You see, our natural state is joy. You might find that hard to believe, but it's true. That is why all of the functions of the body: heart rate, blood pressure, energy, etc- are in perfect balance when we feel good; but when we are worried, angry, or stressed, everything goes haywire. Conflict: in a world wired for stress, our bodies are wired for joy.
The solution is right under your nose. You might be surprised at how easy it is to access that joy through focused breathing. Just a few minutes per day can change your life. Imagine your immune system becoming stronger, keeping you healthier and helping you to sleep better at night. Imagine having access to both hemispheres of the brain for more balanced, outside-the-box solutions to your problems. Imagine balancing your autonomic nervous system to reduce your blood pressure and break free of the fight or flight pattern that dominates our daily life. Imagine breathing so peacefully that the electrical rhythms of the heart, lungs, and brain are synchronized. Imagine being able to shift from fear or anger to trust or even calmness in 2 or 3 seconds. Imagine the feeling of joy returning as an everyday part of your life again.
Everybody breathesYou might wonder "This is too good to be true." or "It's too difficult for me to accomplish." Let me assure you, it's not! The good news is that everyone breathes. You can either breathe unconsciously or consciously. In fact breathing is the only base function of the body where we can choose to do that. No special tools, no fancy apparatus, just the gift we are already endowed with: our incredible, miraculous human body. With just a little bit of instruction, desire, and common sense, your breathing pattern can be changed to give you amazing result.
"[Focused breathing] may be the most potent tool that we have to prevent our brains from keeping us in the state of stress." -Forbes
