When I was 21 years old I read a book that changed my life. It was called "The Third Eye" by T. Lobsang Rampa. I don't know if the story was totally true, but it ignited a spark in my heart and imagination that grew into a deep love for the Tibetan people. Ever since then I have watched for stories, studies, and news clips that would help keep me connected. Today you would have to be turning your head to not know at least some of the Tibetan plight. These simple people based their whole social structure on developing oneness. Prayer wheels and prayer flags lined the streets as even children were taught the virtues of compassion. Basically put, these people lived prayer. Then in 1950, the Chinese decided to occupy this land at the rooftop of the world. Offering very little physical resistance, the Tibetans have been methodically and aggressively brutalized and killed. Somewhere close to 15,000 temples have been burnt to the ground destroying irreplaceable artifacts and documents. Their Spiritual Leader, the Dali Lama, had to flee for his life many years ago. Perhaps you've become aware of their plight through the compassionate message the Dali Lama delivers to people all over the world. And as the world opens their heart to this man of peace, a growing distaste for the Chinese occupation has begun to be vocalized. Finally, the media has begun to offer coverage of the dispute.

Insight Awareness feels a spiritual debt to the people of this holy land. They have inspired us in many ways on our journey to awareness. If you too feel touched by their contribution to the world or have deep feelings to help those who are oppressed by violation of human rights, you will find a place for offering your help to their situation at our center. We will be starting a collection for the Tibetan people by providing an offering bowl on the altar on the north side of the center. All monies collected will go directly to the International Campaign for Tibet. This organization has been supporting the Tibetan cause for 20 years. For more information about ICT and what they do for the people of Tibet please go to their website: www.savetibet.org. Thank you in advance.
